Rep. Laori reiterates house commitment to speedy consideration of public petitions

The Chairman, House Committee on Public Petition, Rep. Kwamoti Laori (PDP-Adamawa), has reiterated the committee’s commitment to speedy and meticulous consideration of petitions submitted to the House of Representatives.

Laori gave the assurance in an interview with newsmen in Abuja on Friday while reacting to the resolutions of the house on some petitions. The committee is committed to quick and timely consideration of all petitions referred to it by the House of Representatives, he said. It could be recalled that the house recently resolved that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), pays N32.1 billion to 5,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Illorin as compensation for loses due to the unlawful demolition, displacement and land acquisition.

This followed a petition submitted by Ajets Surveys on behalf of the IDPs against the NNPCL concerning land acquisition, demolition and unlawful eviction.

The house also resolved that the Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited, a subsidiary of Exxon Mobil, now Seplat Energy pays N72.6 billion as compensation for environmental damages to the affected victims in Ibeno Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom.

The House also resolved that British Oil and GAS Exploration Production Company pays compensation of the sum of N100 million to Mr Edwin Asedere for alleged unlawful termination of appointment following a petition by Award Winning Consult Limited among others.

Also, the house resolved that Total Energies Nigeria Limited through the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), recognised Ikot Abasi, Ibeno and Mbo communities of Akwa Ibom as beneficiaries of the existing Community Development Trust (HCDT) and to paid compensation based on accrued benefits from the year of exclusion.

The house also resolved that Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) should pay Mr Dogo Imooje all outstanding entitlement in salaries/benefits and arrears between February, 2013 and September, 2018 for wrongful dismissal from service.
